My First Blog

I have just joined the world of blogging. Supposedly it's very simple, which is good to know. I want to support teachers in using this tool so it's time I learned it myself. I think we have a responsibility, as teachers, to ensure that our students are technologically savvy and that they, as Will Richardson says, use technology safely, effectively, and ethically. Anne Davis explains why it is so important to use this technology with our students. In particular she says:

Blogging requires us to teach students to critically engage media. Students need
instruction on how to become efficient navigators in these digital spaces
where
they will be obtaining a majority of their information.

I think that blogging will motivate students to become writers. It's a change from the old 'pencil and paper' routine. And talk about metacognition! They'll have to think about their writing, and how well their thoughts are communicated to others. They'll understand the purpose for writing and will hopefully reflect upon themselves as writers.

I'm excited to join this new world and look forward to discovering the possibilities with students!
